DRC TO BE BORN 002.JPG
Health workers walk through the Mahanga clinic, which was looted twice since April in the village of Mahanga, Masisi in North Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, July 30, 2014. Doors and windows were kicked in, and all supplies that could be carried, including the mattresses, were stolen. The local traditional birth attendant had been trained to encourage women to birth at the clinic, which was up to 15 deliveries there a month. But the midwife and the nurse quit when the fighting began, and now there are less than five deliveries per month. "For the maternity there is nothing. If you feel pain in labor, they'll just give you quinine."
